Dear all. I have neen recycling almost all my waste since 1992 and these days I sort and donate my recyclable trash to one of the many reclaimers who process our rubbish in Johannesburg. A colleague Melanie Samson from WITS was in the press recently about the state of the Johannesburg waste system that is not serving us nor the waste reclaimers who are doing us all a massive favour. If you are against the new policy that will not really help, please consider signing this petition. Please see the wording of the txt I received:
"Hi guys, not related to farming but to sustainability. The CoJ is trying to implement a R50 recycling levy for "affluent" households, which will mean that it threatens the livelihoods of the waste reclaimers that do such an invaluable job in recovering resources and diverting waste away from our overflowing landfills. The recycling programme from the city is much less effective than the reclaimers. Today is the last day to sign the petition which has been started by the African Reclaimer Organisation. Please find petition here:"
