Please join us for the next Virtual Farmers' Lab

Friends of iZindaba Zokudla join us for the Virtual Farmers’ Lab on Friday 11 June 2021 at 13h00 – 14h30 on Facebook. I have selected three highly advanced "low external input" farmers for this Lab. We will host Tim Abaa, Jordan Mccloy and Geoff Green on highly advanced gardening techniques and technologies. Tim Abaa needs almost no introduction, as he has pioneered a circular farm in Orange Farm, and i saw first hand how far he went by implementing the insights from the Farmers' Lab at his farm. At one time he farmed (on a "RDP" site) pigs, chickens, bees, many other fowl, avocados, flowers and vegetables. More importantly, he build a community education center that also is a marketing strategy and a food waste harvesting system. What we need to learn from Tim is how far you can go by combining systems - converging them - as the one benefits the other. It is in creating these "holons" that are self-contained systems that are also interlinked, we build value and benefit as the age-old organic processes play out. Please contact Tim after the Lab as he is an excellent trainer and has in fact graduated to the academic side. Jordan Mccloy farms on about 4 ha in Lindeqiesdrift in the Vaal. He farms large scale (more than one hectare) but uses a fermentation system to create fertility. He has developed systems to ferment organic nutrients and these are applied sequentially to boost crops. Geoff Green has produced more than R800 000 worth of produce from a small 4 Ha site in Maraisburg a few years ago. He combined a host of systems to achieve this and was the "resident" farmer for Slow Food Southern Africa for a long time. We will discuss highly advanced techniques, and build upon the previous blog i posted in this regard,. These advanced techniques and technologies willshow us how far we can go with a "organic" or "biological" base for production.
