The West Rand Mega Park aims to integrate emerging and established farmers in its systems. It has already developed a reward system for farmers – in the form of airtime – to secure their loyalty. In this session we will be talking to Slaven Gajovic from the Maximum Group who is developing the West Rand Mega Park and farmers Fazlur Pandor from Urban Fresh, Mphuti Mphuti from Herooes circles, and Maleka Mogale as critical discussants. How can farmers utilise these systems? How can farmers respond to this opportunity?

The West Rand Mega Park (https://westrandmegapark.co.za/) is located near the western edge of Gauteng and will serve Klerksdorp, Fochville and Western Gauteng – Westonaria, Randfontein, Krugersdorp as well as Lenasia and Eldorado Park. This new market holds great benefit to farmers and in this session, we will navigate how farmers can link with the WRMP.
The WRMP introduces circular systems to the South African food system. The market integrates blockchain, Global Positioning Systems (mostly for tracking trucks) and extensive on-line systems for trade. They have begun to introduce an airtime voucher as part of larger loyalty programme. This is just the beginnings of a digital and connected system that aims to catalyse the whole Gauteng and South African food system and move it forward. The Park will also introduce symbiotic industrial systems to South Africa, and the whole park will aim to be wasteless. Symbiotic systems mimic the ecology and the feedback loop and processes in the park aim to not only recycle water and waste, but to instil this as an ethos in the food system.
The engagement of farmers with the WRMP is a unique opportunity. To discuss this opportunity, we will be joined by Fazlur Pandor from Urban Fresh, Maleka Mogale and Tumelo Pule from AB Farms and Mphuti Mphuti from Heroooes circles.
iZindaba Zokudla would like to make opportunities available for farmers to engage with the WRMP. Farmers need to reconfigure their systems and behaviour to engage with this Park, and their inputs will be valuable. Please join us for this discussion!
